Alana S. Portero [hún] er spænskur rithöfundur, ljóð- og leikskáld og sviðsleikstjóri. Jafnframt skrifað hún fyrir ýmsa miðla um menningu, femínisma og hinsegin aktívisma. She studied history at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid where she specialised in medieval history and is a co-founder of the stage group STRIGA. At the group she was both a playwright and an actress and wrote, among other things, the play Música silenciosa (2008). She has published the poetry collections Fantasmas (2010), Irredento (2011), La próxima tormenta (2014) and La habitación de las ahogadas (2017). Her first novel, Bad Habit (La mala costumbre), was published in 2023 and has seen great success. It is a coming-of-age story of a young trans girl in Madrid in the 1980s and 1990s and has been hailed for its depiction of gender and class. The book has been translated into multiple languages, including Portuguese, French, Polish, Czech and Greek. The English translation by Mara Faye Lethem was published by Harper Collins in 2024.

Carmen Maria Machado [she] (b. 1986) is an American writer. Her debut short story collection Her Body and Other Parties was published in 2017 by Graywolf Press to great acclaim. Among others, it was shortlisted for the National Book Award for Fiction and won the Shirley Jackson Award and the Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction. It was furthermore listed as Best Book of the Year in The New York Times and The Washington Post, and Best Book of the Decade by Rolling Stone. The collection consists of eight stories, each in its own way blurring the line between psychological realism, science fiction, fantasy, and horror. In 2019, Machado published her memoir In the Dream House that openly centres around an abusive same sex relationship. In it, Machado continues to blur the lines between literary genres, weaving in references to philosophy, folklore, horror, and pop culture, among other things. In the Dream House won the Lambda Literary Award for LGBT nonfiction and the Judy Grahn Award for Lesbian Nonfiction, as well as being longlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction. It was listed as Best Book of the Year by The New Yorker, New York Times, Time Magazine, Vogue and various other magazines. Machado has published stories, essays, and criticism in a number of prestigious magazines, including The New Yorker, Paris Review, Granta, Los Angeles Review of Books, and Strange Horizons. Lee Langvad [he/she] is a Danish author and translator. (S)he has received multiple awards for his/her work, including Montana’s Literature Prize and Prisma Literature Award. Tolk is a novel about love, family, language barriers and queerness and is based on the author’s own experience. It is about a Danish woman who is adopted from South-Korea and visits her family there over many years. The woman does not speak Korean and the family does not speak Danish or English so they have to communicate through an interpreter. The woman’s interpreter is also her girlfriend which complicated the relationship. Since the woman does not understand what is being said between her family and her interpreter the book is full of silence which in turn reveals her complicated relationship with her family, language and culture.

Sólgarðurinn (þýð. Guðrún Brjánsdóttir)
Beinir Bergsson [hann] (f. 1997) er færeyskt ljóðskáld sem fæddist í Torshavn en ólst upp í Sorvagur. Ljóðabók hans Sólgarðurinn (Sólgarðurin) kom út árið 2021 og var sögð marka tímamót í bókmenntalandslagi Færeyja en hún er fyrsta færeyska ljóðabókin sem fjallar á einlægan og opinskáan hátt um hinsegin ástir. Í Sólgarðinum fylgir lesandinn ástarsambandi tveggja manna í gegnum lifandi náttúrumyndir. Verkið fjallar um tengsl og „allt það sem vex, dafnar og visnar innra með okkur“ en í ljóðunum blandast ástarlíf og persónulegur þroski saman við jarðveg, skordýr og lifandi gróður. Bókin var tilnefnd til Bókmenntaverðlauna Norðurlandaráðs árið 2022 og kom út í íslenskri þýðingu Guðrúnar Brjánsdóttur árið 2023. Guðrún þýddi einnig fyrstu ljóðabók Beinis, Litli drengurinn og beinagrindin (Tann lítli drongurin og beinagrindin), sem fjallar um baráttu föður við krabbamein og sorg ungs sonar hans. Hún kom út á frummálinu árið 2017 en fyrir hana hlaut Beinir EBBA-verðlaunin, verðlaun færeyska rithöfundasambandsins. Beinir stundaði nám í þýsku við Mála- og menningardeild Háskóla Íslands. Um nokkurra ára skeið hefur hann jafnframt verið einn tveggja þáttastjórnanda menningarútvarpsþáttarins Samværi í KVF, ríkisútvarpi Færeyja. Auk íslensku hafa verk hans meðal annars verið þýdd yfir á ensku, dönsku og grísku. Beinir Bergsson verður gestur á Queer Situations 2026.

Beinir Bergsson [he] (b. 1997) is a Faroese poet born in Thorshavn and raised in Sorvagur. His poetry collection The Sun Trap (Sólgarðurin) was published in 2021 and has been said to have marked a turning point in the Faroese literary landscape, being the first Faroese book of poetry to discuss queer love in a sincere and open way. In The Sun Garden, we follow a love affair between two men through vivid images of nature. The work deals with relationships and everything that grows, flourishes, and withers within us, mixing love and personal development with plants, insects, and soil. The book was nominated for the Nordic Council Prize in 2022 and was published in Icelandic translation by Guðrún Brjánsdóttir in 2023. Guðrún also translated Beinir’s first book of poetry, The Little Boy and the Skeleton (Tann lítli drongurin og beinagrindin), which handles a father’s struggle with cancer and the grief of his young son. It was published in its original language in 2017, and for it, Beinir received the EBBA Award from the Faroese Writers’ Association. Beinir studied German in the Faculty of Languages and Cultures at the University of Iceland. For a few years, he has been one of the hosts of Samværi, a radio show on culture at KVF, the National Public Radio station of the Faroe Islands. In addition to Icelandic, his work has been translated into English, Danish, Greek, and other languages. Beinir Bergsson will be a guest at Queer Situations 2026.
Jenny Björklund [hún] er sænsk fræðikona og prófessor í bókmenntum og kynjafræði við Háskólann í Uppsala. Hún hefur gefið út fræðibækur og birt hinar ýmsu greinar á sviði hinsegin- og kvennafræða. Jenny Björklund [she] is a Swedish scholar and professor of Comparative Literature and Gender Studies at Uppsala University. She has written books as well as various articles in the field of queer studies and women’s studies. Her book Maternal Abandonment and Queer Resistance in Twenty-First-Century Swedish Literature questions why so many mothers abandon their children in Twenty-First-Century Swedish literature by analyzing literary representations of maternal abandonment in relation to sociopolitical discourses, drawing on a queer-theoretical framework. It was published in 2021. In 2014, she published Lesbianism in Swedish Literature: An Ambiguous Affair, which, among other things, showed that Swedish literary discourses on lesbianism contrast in provocative ways with the widely accepted view that attitudes toward homosexuality have improved over time in Swedish society. In 2025, she was co-editor of Negotiating Non-Motherhood: Representations, Perceptions, and Experiences. Björklund has taught at various Universities both in Sweden and the USA, including Uppsala University, Stockholm University, and UCLA. She was an editor at the LGBTQ scholarly journal Lambda Nordica from 2012 to 2020. Her current research is on cultural representations of in/voluntary childlessness, reproductive decision-making, and climate change.

Edy Poppy [she] and Julian Blaue [he] are performance artists and a couple. Their works explore the boundaries between art and reality and examine social structures, the role of art and the border between the individual and society. The performance piece The Trial Against Ourselves (2021) was a trial they held against themselves and got the audience to act as jury. It looked at the concepts of truth and power from a different point of view. Another performance piece by the couple is Iggy – Virkeligheten slår tilbake (2025) which is based on the book of the same name by Edy Poppy but she is also an author. She has published the books Anatomi. Monotoni. (2005), Å være alene er ikke det samme som å være ensom (2006), Sammen. Brudd. (2011), Farvel eventyrland (2016) og Iggy (2024). Two of her books have been translated into English. Anatomy. Monotony. was released in 2018 and Coming. Apart. in the year 2025. Both books were translated by May-Britt Akerholt.

The book became immensely popular and earned her the National Book Critics Circle Award. Subsequently she received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2016. She has also published numerous books of non-fiction, including The Red Parts: A Memoir in 2007, The Art of Cruelty: A Reckoning in 2011 and On Freedom: Four Songs of Care and Constraint in 2021. In the early 90s, Dodge was one of the founders of the now-legendary San Francisco community-based performance space, The Bearded Lady, which served as a touchstone for a pioneering, queer, DIY literary and arts scene. In 2017 Dodge was awarded a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship. He resides in Los Angeles with his partner writer Maggie Nelson.

Henni hefur verið lýst sem draumkenndri og melankólískri frásögn af fjölda smáatriða sem er í senn lífleg, skörp og húmorísk og um leið afrek í persónusköpun. Her first novel, Söta Fredag, was published in 2012 and was described as a unique and colorful work that was followed by her second novel Sent Farväl the year after. In 2018 she published a short story collection called Klen tröst – & fyra andra berättelser om pengar which includes five stories that deal with the relationship between people and money. Her latest novel, The Details (Detaljerne), was published in 2022 and is a bestseller that has been translated into numerous languages. It has been described as both a dreamlike and melancholy narrative that is at once lively, sharp and humorous and as “a feat of characterization”. It has been nominated for numerous awards, including book of the year by the Swedish LGBT+ magazine QX in 2023. The English translation of The Details is now shortlisted for the 2024 International Booker Prize. It won the prestigious Augustpriset award in Sweden in 2022 as well as the Aftonbladet literary prize. The book was translated into Icelandic by Þórdís Gísladóttir and published by Benedikt Publishing in 2023.

Hún hefur einnig starfað á sviði myndlistar en fyrsta einkasýning hennar, Sjáðu fegurð þína, var sett upp í Gerðubergi í fyrra samhliða ritþingi um skáldskap og listferil hennar á vegum Borgarbókasafnsins. Kristín stundaði nám í íslensku og almennri bókmenntafræði við Háskóla Íslands og spænsku við Háskólann í Barcelona. Árið 1985 vann hún leikritasamkeppni Þjóðleikhússins og í kjölfarið var fyrsta leikrit hennar, Draumar á hvolfi, sett upp. Fyrsta skáldsaga hennar, Svartir brúðarkjólar, kom út árið 1992 en hún hefur síðan sent frá sér fjölda skáldsagna og nokkur smásagnasöfn ásamt átta ljóðabókum sem komu út í heildarsafni hjá Partusi bókaforlagi árið 2020. Árið 2005 hlaut hún Grímuverðlaunin sem leikskáld ársins fyrir leikritið Segðu mér allt. Hún hefur fjórum sinnum verið tilnefnd til Íslensku bókmenntaverðlaunanna og tvisvar til Bókmenntaverðlauna Norðurlandaráðs, árið 1999 fyrir skáldsöguna Elskan mín ég dey og árið 2019 fyrir ljóðabókina Kóngulær í sýningargluggum. Verk hennar hafa verið þýdd á fjölda tungumála, þar á meðal ensku, frönsku, þýsku og sænsku. Hún hlaut Fjöruverðlaunin, bókmenntaverðlaun kvenna og kvára í flokki fagurbókmennta árið 2024 fyrir nýjustu skáldsögu sína Móðurást, Oddný.

Kristín Ómarsdóttir [she] is a multi-award winning writer and poet and one of the pioneers of Icelandic queer literature. She has also worked in the visual arts and last year her first private exhibition opened in Gerðuberg alongside a conference on her written work and art career organized by The City Library. Kristín studied Icelandic and Comparative literature at the University of Iceland and Spanish at the University of Barcelona. In 1985 she won The National Theater’s play competition for her first play Draumar á hvolfi. Her first novel Svartir brúðarkjólar was published in 1992 and since then she has published numerous novels along with a few short story collections as well as eight books of poetry that were published in a Collected Poems by Partus publishing in 2020. In 2005 she won the Grímuverðlunin, the Icelandic Performing Arts award, for the play Segðu mér allt. She has been nominated for the Icelandic Literature prize four times and twice for the Nordic Literature Prize, in 1999 for the novel Elskan mín ég dey and in 2019 for the poetry collection Kóngulær í sýningargluggum. Her work has been translated into numerous languages including English, French, German and Swedish. She won the 2024 Fjöruverðlaun, the Icelandic women and non-binary people’s literature prize, for her latest novel, Móðurást, Oddný.
[IS]Madame Nielsen [hún] hefur verið kölluð ein af djörfustu listamönnum Danmerkur. Hún er margkynja danskur listamaður, tónlistarkona, rithöfundur og leikkona. Hún var áður þekkt undir nafninu Claus Beck-Nielsen en árið 2001 lýsti hún yfir dauða hans og til ársins 2011 vann hin nafnlausa manneskja sem eftir stóð að verkefninu „Das Beckwerk“ sem hverfðist meðal annars um hvernig það er að lifa án sjálfsmyndar og nafns og byrðarinnar sem því fylgir. Í kjölfarið kom út bókin Beyond Identity sem fjallar um verkefnið. Árið 2013 endurfæddist hún sem Madame Nielsen og ári seinna gaf hún út skáldsöguna Den endeløse sommer sem hefur verið lýst sem töfrandi skáldsögu, sem skrifuð er á hátt sem frelsi egóið frá stífum samfélagslegum hugmyndum um kyn, kynhneigð og líkama. Síðan þá hefur hún gefið út skáldsögur á borð við The Monster (2018) og Lamento (2020) en áður höfðu komið út bækurnar Horne Land (1999), Selvmordsaktionen (2005) Mine møder med de danske forfattere (2013) og fleiri. Þær tvær síðastnefndu voru tilnefndar til Norrænu bókmenntaverðlaunanna en Nielsen hefur hlotið fjölda verðlauna fyrir verk sín, sem hafa auk þess verið þýdd yfir á níu tungumál.

Madame Nielsen [she] has been called one of Denmark’s most daring artists. She is a multi-gendered Danish artist, musician, writer and actress. She was formerly known as Claus Beck-Nielsen who she declared dead in 2001 and until 2011 the nameless person who remained, worked on a project called “Das Beckwerk” that among other things explored the idea of living without a name and identity, freed from the burden of such things. Following the project, the book Beyond Identity was published based on the project. In 2013 she was reborn as Madame Nielsen and the following year she published the novel Den endeløse sommer (The Endless Summer) which has been described as a magical novel written in a way that frees the ego from rigid societal ideas on gender, sexuality and the body. Since then she has published novels such as The Monster (2018) and Lamento (2020). Before that the books Horne Land (1999), Selvmordsaktionen (2005) and Mine møder med de danske forfattere (2013) had been published, among others, the last two mentioned being nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize. She has received numerous awards for her work which has been translated into 9 languages.
